Tasty food and drinks made from good ingredients.

We love great tasting food and drinks, created with wellbeing in mind

We're working hard to offer a great tasting, high-quality, and balanced food and drink range that is supported by clear and meaningful nutritional information, helping our customers to make the choice that’s right for them. We’re committed to providing credible healthier choices and are constantly exploring how to make improvements to the balance of our menu.

At Costa Coffee, we are dedicated to making healthier choices easy and accessible for our customers. In line with the growing demand for nutritious options, our Healthier Choice initiative provides clarity and confidence in selecting healthier food items.

Many foods marketed as healthy can still contain high levels of salt, fat, or sugar, so our Healthier Choice criteria aims to eliminate the guesswork. By highlighting truly nutritious options our customers can make informed choices.

Our criteria has been developed by our nutrition team, based on the government’s ‘traffic light’ system and Nutrient Profiling Model (NPM) points system, ensuring criteria is credible and fit for purpose. The ‘traffic light’ system indicates whether products are ‘high’ (red), ‘medium’ (amber), or ‘low’ (green) in fat, saturated fat, sugar, and salt; and the NPM is an evidence-based calculation that takes into account negative nutrients such as saturated fat and sugar, and positive nutrients such as protein, and fibre. A food scoring less than four NPM points, and drinks scoring less than one NPM point are considered ‘healthier.’

To qualify as Healthier Choice products must meet the following standards:

  • Food must score less than four NPM points

  • Food must not contain any red traffic lights for fat, saturated fat, sugar, or salt

  • Food must be 400 kcal or less per serving

  • Food must be eligible for at least one specific nutrition, and health claim e.g. High in protein, or source of fibre

  • Foods should not exceed the maximum current voluntary government salt targets

While our Healthier Choice range helps to highlight products that meet our nutritional criteria, behind the scenes we are constantly exploring how to make nutritional improvements to the products in our range without compromising on their great taste.

We’re also a member of the British Nutrition Foundation to ensure that the decisions we make on nutrition and wellbeing reflect best practice.
