Make your own Costa mac 'n' cheese
Our easy to follow steps make a creamy portion of extra gooey mac 'n' cheese - just like the kind you find in our stores.
Ingredients you’ll need
:
- 160g macaroni (or any short shape pasta)
For the cheese sauce:
- 350ml milk
- 2 heaped dessert spoons plain flour
- 25g butter
- 75g grated strong cheddar
For the topping:
- 30g grated strong cheddar
Feeling cheesy? Let's get mixing
Step 1: In a large pan bring highly seasoned water to the boil and add your macaroni (or pasta of choice) and cook until al dente. Then drain immediately & toss in a little oil.
Step 2: Melt the butter in a pan on a medium - low heat.
Step 3: Once melted add 1 dessert spoon of flour and stir until combined. Then add the 2nd spoon of flour and heat for 1 minute, stirring continuously.
Step 4: Add the milk, 50ml at a time, only add the next 50ml when it is fully incorporated. Continue until all the milk is used.
Step 5: Add half the cheese, stir until melted and then add the rest. When you have a smooth sauce remove from heat.
Step 6: Mix in the pasta until evenly coated in sauce (at this stage you could also add 15g of chopped spinach) and pour in to an oven proof dish.
Final step: Top with grated cheese and bake until golden. Enjoy!
