With up to 150 children to a class, no qualified teachers, insufficient staff accommodation and no access to clean water, Rwemigango primary school was severely underfunded and oversubscribed.
The Foundation has built and furnished a new classroom block consisting of two classrooms, improved sanitation and enabled access to clean water through the provision of water-harvesting tanks. New staff accommodation was completed in March 2009, enabling teachers having to travel long distances to stay in Bushenyi during the week as well as providing rooms for local teachers in need of a roof over their heads.
These are all facilities we take for granted in the UK, but these improvements are simply life-changing for this community.

The success of this project, along with Mushasha primary school in Ntungamo, has lead to the possibility of replicating the model throughout Western Uganda.
"As coffee producers, we highly value the education of our children, but we lack the resources. However, by working together with UNEX and the coffee buyers, we will be able to give to our children good education and hope for a bright future."
Mr Y. K Abainenamar, General Manager, Union Export Services Limited (UNEX)
