Mushasha Primary School in Ntungamo, Uganda was one of the first schools to benefit from Costa Foundation funding during 2008 and the project was so successful that more capacity was needed.
Initially, classrooms were required for 120 children desperate for an education, but having to take lessons under a tree as their existing classrooms had been declared structurally unsound. Within 4 days of opening the new classrooms, an additional 100 children turned up to use the facilities.
As a result, the Costa Foundation trustees approved additional funding in order to:
- Extend the capacity of the school by 100%
- Build a new office for the Headmaster
- Fully furnish all new rooms
The new classrooms and Headmaster's office are due for completion in July 2009.
