Costa

Mushasha primary school in Ntungamo, Uganda was one of the first schools to benefit from Costa Foundation funding during 2008. Phase one of the project provided two fully furnished classrooms, teacher accommodation and water-harvesting tanks. It proved so successful that more capacity was needed.

Initially, classrooms were required for 120 children so desperate for an education that they were taking lessons under a tree, as their existing classroom was structurally unsound. Within four days of opening the new classrooms, an additional 180 children turned up to use the facilities.

As a result, the Costa Foundation trustees approved additional funding in order to:
  • Extend the capacity of the school to cope with increased numbers
  • Build a new office for the Headmaster
  • Fully furnish all new rooms
The new classrooms and Headmaster's office opened in August in 2009.
