Costa

Work started in January 2009 at the Costa Foundation's first Costa Rican project, in Puntarenas, a remote indigenous Indian community in the north of the country. In December 2009, the project opened, providing two classrooms and the first computer facilities in the region, which are being used by both children and adults alike. Previously, children from this region, even those lucky enough to have attended high school, had never even seen a computer before, much less learned how to use one.

There are now 70 children and two teachers benefitting from the school facilities, which include a new electricity supply, new storage facilities and complete renovation of the toilets. This is a very small community and its infrastructure is still recovering from damage caused by Hurricane Stan. The Costa Foundation's investment has therefore generated much excitement and hope for the future.

With our help, children in this coffee-growing community have been given a better education and a better start in life.
