The Perfect Cup

Some people would call our pursuit of the perfect cup of coffee an obsession. Do we care? No, because nothing less will do. Our Italian Master Roasters (the only three in the UK) spend their lives selecting the finest beans and roasting them to perfection. To prepare our coffee with any less care and attention to detail would be sacrilege.

Our baristas are trained (some might say indoctrinated) in the Four Ms.

Miscela

Blend: Costa has a unique espresso blend we call Mocha Italia ( using 6 parts arabica beans and 1 part robusta beans)

Macinatura

Grind: Every cup of Costa coffee is prepared from freshly ground beans. These must be ground to exactly the right consistency to ensure the perfect extraction of the flavours and aroma. Atmospheric changes can alter the perfect grind consistency, so every few hours the Barista must check and re-calibrate the grind regulator. If wrong the coffee could be too strong or too weak. We use the Ferrari of grinders too - the Petroncini to ensure our beans are ground as well as they can be.

Mazza

Machine: Costa coffee shops use specially designed Italian espresso machines, produced in collaboration with the manufacturer and our Master Roasters. These have been tuned and perfected over the last 20 years to achieve high volumes of perfect espresso (the heart of every coffee drink).

Mano

Hand: the skill of the Barista. It is the Barista who takes responsibility for all the controllable factors that can influence the perfect cup of coffee. They undergo extensive training at our Coffee Academy and they know how to check and control the correct dose, grind size, tamp (pressure) applied to the coffee grounds, extraction time and cleanliness and maintenance of the equipment.

Espresso Single Shot

Short, strong, sweet and black: just what you need to start the day and perfect after a meal.

 

Americano Single Shot

Espresso with hot water: a longer coffee with an espresso taste. 

     

Espresso Doppio Double Shot

A double shot of espresso: twice the strength for an extra kick.

 

Cappuccino Single Shot Frothed Milk Chocolate

Espresso topped with steamed, frothed milk and a sprinkling of chocolate: breakfast coffee you can enjoy all day.

     

Ristretto Ristretto

A very short espresso: The ultimate strength shot.

 

Caffè Latte Single Shot Steamed Milk

Espresso with steamed milk: plenty of milk and lots of flavour.

     

Macchiato Single Shot Frothed Milk

Espresso with a dash of frothed milk: A smoother flavour with all the taste.
